PALLET TYPES ACCORDING TO DIMENSIONS
Europallet
Moreover, it is one of the types of pallets standardised by ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation), European industry and logistics therefore use the europallet as the main support to facilitate the flow of goods and their grouping in the transport and storage process.
The dimensions of the Euro pallet are determined by the width of the wagons, containers and lorry boxes, which are usually 2400 mm, allowing them to be positioned in such a way as to make full use of the loading space.
:
- Dimensions: length 800 mm, width 1200 mm.
- Materials: 11 wooden boards, 9 dowels, 78 nails.
- Approx. weight: 25 kg.
- Safe working load when moving: 1500 kg.
- Static load: when stacking loaded pallets on a solid and even surface, the lowest pallet must not exceed a load of more than 5500 kg.
- They contain various markings for identification, such as the licence number or the treatment method. However, the most visible is the acronym EPAL.
American Pallet
The dimensions of the American pallet are 1200x1000 mm and it is widely used in American and Japanese logistics. It is also called universal pallet or isopallet.
:
- Dimensions: length 1000 mm, width 1200 mm.
- Approx. weight: 25 kg.
- Safe working load when moving: 1500 kg
- Static load: not to exceed 6000 kg on a solid and safe smooth surface.
Other pallet sizes::
The ISO organisation identifies 4 other standardised sizes in addition to those indicated for the europallet and the American pallet: 1016x1219mm, 1165x1165mm, 1067x1067mm and 1100x1100mm. The use of this type of pallet is much lower than the europallet or the American pallet..
PALLET TYPES ACCORDING TO NUMBER OF WAYS
2-Ways
The pallet can only be accessed from 2 sides facing each other. These pallets are less mobile than 4-way pallets simply because they are less accessible.
4-Ways
The forklift or mechanical means of transporting the pallet can access the pallet from either side of the pallet in width or length.
Wooden pallets
Wooden composite pallets are the most demanded pallets, reaching a market share of 90 o 95%.
Avantages:
These pallets are competitively priced in relation to their strength, reliability and ability to be repaired, which extends their life cycle. In their favour, they are also easy to recycle.
Disadvantages:
Damage to the structure of the pallet if the wood is heavily hit or difficulty in cleaning and disinfection.
* Wooden pallets, whatever their size, are subject to ISPM 15 (or ISPM 15), which governs the way in which wooden packaging, including pallets, must be treated in international trade. ISPM 15 requires that pallets are manufactured from debarked wood and, in addition, that they are treated with a phytosanitary treatment to prevent the presence and proliferation of wood-related pests. Pallets that comply with this regulation contain the corresponding indication or labelling.
TYPES OF PALLETS ACCORDING TO THEIR STRUCTURE
TIPS FOR LOADING ON PALLETS
- Do not leave gaps between pallets to avoid unbalanced stacking.
- Place pallets crosswise if they are to be transported by lorry or any other means of transport.
- The load must not exceed the dimensions of the pallet, and if it does, carry out shrink-wrapping actions around the load.
- Know the height and weight of the load to know exactly how many pallets can be loaded on the means of transport or in the warehouse.
- It is preferable to position the goods so that the forklift is more comfortable/easier to handle the pallet.
